Applied Digital appoints McGowan as senior creative director

Huddersfield digital agency Applied Digital has appointed Mike McGowan as its new senior creative director after increasing gross revenue by 20% year-on-year.

McGowan brings more than 30 years’ multi-channel creative experience with him and has run his own consultancy, ByMcGowan, for the last 25 years.

He has developed strategies for brands including Jaguar Land Rover, IBM and United Aluminium and has led creative campaigns for the likes of Sun Microsystems USA and Viventy Jewels Italy. Prior to this, he held senior creative roles with Attik and Yorkshire Building Society.

McGowan will work in the agency’s office in Huddersfield and be responsible for delivering the full spectrum of brand development and implementation for Applied’s existing client projects and new business pitches, with a focus on digital marketing.Applied Digital has made two further strategic appointments to support its continued growth, as it gears up to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.

Amanda Evans joined in April as account manager and has recently been promoted to the role of client services manager, while Luke West joins the agency’s web development team as junior developer.

Digital apprentice Marine Hartley, who has been with the agency for the past 12 months, is also taking up a full-time role as account executive. The new additions take the agency headcount to 10.

Managing director Steve Sykes said: “We’ve entered our 19th year of business stronger than ever and with our continued growth throughout 2018, it was the right time to step up our game and invest in the agency’s creative offering.

“Amanda’s promotion coupled with Mike’s appointment will underpin our growth on a strategic level as we expand our offering.

“Our new business pipeline has increased year on year and we’re forecasting a further 20% growth. I’m excited to see what the future for Applied Digital holds, it’s a fantastic place to be right now.”

McGowan added: “I’ve known Steve and Applied for almost 20 years. They are one of the few pure digital agencies outside of Leeds whose sole focus is on delivering a return on investment for clients.

“They have a fantastic reputation for their approach to technical excellence and we can now combine this expertise with my brand development experience to build on this offering and open up new markets.”

Applied has more than 100 clients, including global brand implementation specialist Principle Global, Delivita, Murray Metals Group and United Autosports. The agency was founded by Sykes in 1999.
