America’s “biggest streaming platform” to open Manchester engineering hub

Streaming giant, Roku, is opening a new technical and engineering operation in Manchester.

The company, which has been valued at $45bn, is currently recruiting for tech and software roles in the city.

Prolific North understands that it is moving into an office space at Bruntwood’s Circle Square – however that hasn’t been confirmed.

The streaming platform, which has 55.1m subscribers and a net revenue of $645m is rated as America’s number one streaming platform, based in hours streamed (according to Kantar).

In June, it recruited Nadeem Hannan as its Manchester-based Senior Technical Recruiter.

Hannan joined from Google Cloud, where he was Technical Recruiter in London. He’s also held roles at Cielo Talent in Manchester and AWS, also in Manchester.

We are still awaiting an official comment from Roku, but Hannan stated on LinkedIn:

“You may not be familiar with the Roku Inc. brand, but we are making streaming TV a reality around the world.

“Our next engineering hub is being built in Manchester, so if you’re a Software Engineer with Embedded Development experience, you should consider joining a fast-growing company changing the face of entertainment.”

Manchester would be the firm’s fourth UK base, following London, Cambridge and Cardiff. It currently employs 1925 people around the world.

It comes following an announcement this summer that it was partnering with TCL Electronics  to launch its TCL Roku TV models in the UK.
