BBC 5 Live’s hit podcast series Gangster: The Story of the Daniels and the Lyons returns on 25 July with a gripping bonus episode, following the shocking double killing of two Scots on the Costa del Sol.
Hosted by Livvy Haydock, the new episode looks at the recent deaths of Eddie Lyons Jr. and Ross Monaghan, who were shot dead outside Monaghan’s Bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol, on 31 May 2025. Spanish police believe the killing was a targeted gangland hit linked to the decades-long conflict between the Daniels and Lyons crime families in Glasgow.
The victims, both of whom had ties to the Lyons side of the feud, were ambushed by a gunman who opened fire as they sat outside the bar. According to Spanish police, the assassin escaped by running across train tracks and through a tunnel to avoid CCTV cameras, investigators are now pursuing multiple lines of enquiry, including whether there was involvement of individuals connected to the Daniels crew.
However Scottish police say they aren’t aware of any evidence the murders were linked to the feud or had been planned from Scotland.
The killings come amid an upsurge in violence in Glasgow and Edinburgh in which members of the Daniel clan and their associates have been targeted in fire-bombings and machete attacks.
With the investigation still ongoing, the bonus episode explores how a feud rooted in the streets of north Glasgow could have spilled onto the sun-drenched coast of southern Spain, with deadly consequences.

The Gangster podcast has previously charted the rise of two of Glasgow’s most feared organised crime families, and how their rivalry – originally over drugs, debt and territory – has escalated into a cycle of revenge that spans the continent.
This bonus episode continues that investigation, revealing the far-reaching impact of a war that shows no signs of stopping.
