£300k gaming grants open for West Yorkshire

Applications have opened for a 3-year development programme to help games studios and digital agencies in and around Leeds.

Gameslab is backed by Creative England and is offering £300k in grants, investments, workshops and networking events.

“We know the gaming and digital industry in Leeds has some incredible talents. We want to find, support and develop the most exciting, innovative and disruptive people and companies to drive the sector even further forward, putting Leeds’ gaming sector on a national and international platform,” explained Rob Crossley, head of games for Creative England , who launched the initiative at Futurelab Leeds.

“Gameslab Leeds in an incredible opportunity, assisting with the crucial finance, as well as development, as we’ll be offering SMEs masterclasses on identifying and exploiting IP, marketing and generating sales, access to finance investors publishers and distributors and much much more.”

They are looking for companies that are development something “new and innovative” be that IP, technology, a new games engine or different ways for players to interact with games.

Gameslab Leeds focuses on the “Leeds LEP area”, which extends as far out as Barnsley, Bradford, Harrogate, Wakefield and York.

The scheme is supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the Regional Growth Fund.
