Alderley Park has officially launched its new Life Science Enterprise Zone and promised to accelerate growth in Cheshire East.

The Zone is part of the Cheshire Science Corridor and covers 21.5 hectares, including 1.1 million square feet of built floorspace. It has the potential to create up to 7,000 highly skilled jobs.

Enterprise Zone status means businesses moving to the site can gain 100% business rate relief of up to £55,000 per year for five years, as well as enhanced capital allowances and an on-site dedicated business support programme.

The Zone was launched by Councillor Don Stockton, Cheshire East Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, and site director Dr Chris Doherty.

Councillor Stockton said: “Alderley Park is already a compelling place to locate a business, but the new Enterprise Zone provides significant new incentives to businesses operating in the biotech and life science sectors.

“The growth and expansion of new businesses, increased employment and the reinvestment of business rates will support the long term growth of Alderley Park and Cheshire East.”

Blueberry Therapeutics, based at Alderley Park, recently completed their application for business rate relief.

Company co-founder Dr Mike Davies said: “The application process was very simple and straightforward.

“We received guidance and support from both the finance team at Alderley Park and the Skills and Growth Company.  I would urge everyone that is eligible to apply”.

Alderley Park is already home to over 150 businesses from the life science sector, employing more than 550 staff.
