BBC Local Radio has announced its plans for covering the 2026/27 football season.
In total, local radio stations will be providing more than 5000 commentaries across all tiers of football.
The BBC Local teams have added options to BBC Sounds, where fans can subscribe to updates, interviews, debates and features for their club.
New this season on Sounds and local stations is the Total Sport Show, which will air every Saturday afternoon.
Hosted by BBC Radio Somerset’s Charlie Taylor, who’s also a commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live, it will feature all the goals and an overview of each match.

“Football is at the heart of our local communities, and we’re making it easier than ever before for audiences to follow the teams that matter most to them,” said Steph Marshall, BBC’s Head of the West and South West, leads on BBC Local Sport.
“With live commentary for every single EFL club, digital updates, and a revamped Total Sport – we’re bringing the action closer to fans no matter where they are.”
The BBC will be hoping that the new football season will bring more listeners, after last quarter’s RAJARs showed it was falling further behind commercial radio.
During the April-June period, commercial radio reached 40.2m listeners, BBC’s combined audience fell to 30.9m. 6.9m people listened each week to BBC Nations radio and BBC Local Radio. During the same period there were 831m plays of BBC Sound content – up 19% on the same period.
