Computer science graduates build immersive digital studio with Quickline backing

Three University of Hull computer science graduates are growing a new digital studio creating immersive experiences, apps and websites after securing backing through a Quickline-supported enterprise scheme.

Heuro Studios was founded by Alex Sparkes, from Hornsea, Rand Nessif, from west Hull, and Jack Shanks, from Beverley, and is based at the K2 building in Hull city centre.

The trio established the business to create immersive digital experiences alongside apps and websites, with projects ranging from turning board games into digital learning tools to helping businesses reach new audiences.

Sparkes has now secured a £728.97 grant through a partnership between rural broadband provider Quickline and the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank (JCYEB).

The funding is being used to buy a camera and tablet as well as website domains to support the studio’s work for clients.

Sparkes said: “A big part of what we do is making digital content more accessible, whether that’s turning a board game into a digital learning tool, or helping a costume business reach new audiences.

“Having the right tools to do that matters, and this grant has made sure we’re not held back by equipment when the ideas are there.

“When you start a new business, you need all the help you can get and, for a young company like ours, that support is massive.

“Quickline has been so supportive and this will really help our business offering, as lots of clients need new, high quality images for their websites.”

Quickline announced a two-year partnership with JCYEB earlier this year aimed at supporting digital inclusion and youth entrepreneurship across East Yorkshire.

The partnership forms part of the broadband provider’s wider commitment to Project Gigabit, the UK government programme designed to bring gigabit-capable broadband to hard-to-reach and rural communities.
