As the eyes of the golfing world turn to Liverpool City Region this week for the 154th British Open at Royal Birkdale, a giant 1,000 square metre portrait of local golfing legend Tommy Fleetwood has been unveiled in the city centre.
The 40m x 25m art work has been created on the grass at Chavasse Park at Liverpool ONE to celebrate the start of the world’s oldest golf tournament. The 1,000-sq metre image of Southport-born Tommy Fleetwood took three people two days to create using special grass pitch-marking paint – the campaign was created by the centre’s new PR agency, Umpf.
Brendan Hattam, centre director at Liverpool ONE, said: “As the region welcomes visitors not just from around the UK, but from across the world, we wanted to mark this special occasion with a supersized display of support and we think we’ve got Tommy’s image down to a tee.
“There’s going to be a real buzz around the city for what is one of the world’s greatest golf championships and we’re delighted to be playing a small part in the celebrations with our huge display of support.”
