Manchester United team up with Bono’s charity for Brentford match shirt campaign

MatchWornShirt (MWS) has partnered with Manchester United and (RED) to launch a unique fundraising initiative, giving fans the chance to own exclusive, Manchester United match-worn shirts from their favourite players.

Fortonight’s (April 27) game against Brentford FC, Manchester United players will take to the pitch wearing a special edition shirt with (RED) as the front-of-shirt sponsor. Following the match, a full set of match-worn, issued and signed shirts, including those from the starting XI and substitutes, will be made available to fans and collectors via the MWS website and app, running from April 27 to May 2.

Founded by Bono & Bobby Shriver in 2006, (RED) partners with the world’s most iconic brands and people to raise money, heat, and urgency for global health crises. To date, (RED) has generated over $800 million for the Global Fund, helping more than 350 million people. Net proceeds from the auction will go in part to support (RED)’s mission to combat global health crises.

Tijmen Zonderwijk, co-founder at MatchWornShirt, said: “These shirts represent the very best of football – moments on the pitch transformed into meaningful impact off it. By bringing fans closer to the game they love, we’re turning that passion into something bigger, helping to raise critical funds and awareness for life-saving global health programmes around the world.”

Kate Charles, Managing Director of (RED), said: “This collection shows how purpose-driven partnerships can turn the power of sport into real-world impact. Each shirt tells a story from the pitch, while also helping to fund life-saving global health programs in communities where they are needed most.”

(RED) was founded in 2006 with a mission to turn brands and people into a force for fighting AIDS and health crises. It has partnered with iconic brands like Apple, Bank of America, and others to create (RED) products, with a portion of profits donated to the global fund. Its contributions have supported over a million people with HIV testing and services, providing HIV-positive mothers with treatment and supporting AIDS programs in countries like Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, and 100% of money raised goes to fund its programmes.
