Glasgow tech firm expands to Ireland

Glasgow-based payroll technology firm NXSYS has strengthened its team and expanded into Ireland as part of its continued growth across the UK and international markets.

Headquartered on Renfield Street in central Glasgow, the company, founded by tech specialist Jim McBride, has seen increasing demand from employers, agencies and accountants seeking more streamlined and transparent ways to manage payroll.

The launch of NXSYS Ireland marks an important step in the firm’s wider growth strategy, enabling businesses operating in Ireland to benefit from the same connected, cloud-based payroll infrastructure already used by organisations across the UK.

NXSYS has also recently welcomed Beth Williams, previously of Firefish Software, to the business as business development manager, further strengthening the team as the company continues to grow.

Her appointment follows a busy period for the firm, which has been advising clients on the implications of new Joint and Several Liability legislation that came into force in April 2026. The rules mean organisations involved in labour supply chains, particularly those using umbrella companies, may share responsibility for unpaid payroll taxes where compliance failures occur.

Williams said awareness of the legislation has prompted many organisations to review how payroll operates across their wider supply chain: “Businesses want reassurance that the systems they rely on are clear, compliant and easy to manage,” she explained. “Technology can play an important role in giving organisations confidence that processes are being handled correctly.”

Founder and managing director McBride added that the company’s continued growth reflects a wider shift in how businesses approach payroll and workforce management: “Payroll has traditionally been seen as an administrative function, but it has become far more strategic,” he said. “As organisations grow, they often find legacy systems cannot keep up with the complexity of modern workforce structures. Having a connected system that provides visibility across the payroll process is increasingly important.

“The Ireland platform has been developed to support Irish businesses and accountants with automated onboarding, intelligent import mapping and connected employer and employee portals.”

McBride founded NXSYS after years of working in IT consultancy, where he frequently encountered inefficient payroll platforms and disconnected systems that created unnecessary complexity for employers and workers alike.

The company’s technology supports a range of payroll models, including PAYE, umbrella and contractor structures.
