New partnership aims to take Northern AI ambition from exploration to outcomes

With AI investment accelerating at pace, Northern firms Perform Partners and RiverAI have announced a strategic partnership to help organisations across the region turn growing AI ambition into practical, measurable business outcomes.

Across the North, the partners note that momentum is building in the field. From Leeds Digital Festival to Manchester Digital, and with Bradford preparing to launch its own digital festival, the region continues to establish itself as a centre for innovation and business-led transformation. Local organisations are not only engaging with new technologies but are also actively shaping how they are applied in practice.

At the same time, AI investment continues to rise. According to KPMG’s 2025 CEO Outlook, more than 70% of CEOs now see AI as a top investment priority, with most expecting returns within the next one to three years. Yet research from MIT suggests that many AI initiatives are still failing to deliver measurable return on investment. For businesses across the region, the challenge is not access to AI but turning that investment into operational outcomes that improve performance.

A shift in approach is now emerging. Organisations are stepping back to understand where AI can genuinely improve how work gets done and better support their teams. This includes identifying where time is being consumed by repetitive or administrative tasks and reducing that effort to enable teams to focus on customers, growth, and decision-making.

Alongside this, there is an increasing focus on governance. As AI adoption grows, businesses must ensure it is implemented in a controlled and compliant way, with clear ownership and oversight across the organisation.

When this approach is taken, AI moves beyond experimentation and begins to deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, capacity, and control.

It is within this context that Perform Partners and RiverAI, both based in the Leeds with Perform also operating a Manchester office, have announced their partnership, focused on helping organisations move from AI exploration to operational outcomes. The partnership combines RiverAI’s expertise in identifying where AI can deliver real value with Perform Partners’ strength in structured delivery and business-led implementation.

Together, they aim to support organisations across the N in applying AI in a practical and scalable way, ensuring initiatives are aligned to business priorities and embedded into day-to-day operations.

For the region, this reflects a broader shift. Businesses are moving beyond awareness and experimentation, towards building the capability to apply AI effectively and responsibly. It also reinforces the North’s growing role in shaping how emerging technologies are used to drive real business outcomes.

As AI continues to evolve, “the organisations that succeed will be those that focus on outcomes, redesign how work is done, and embed AI into the core of their operations,” Perform and River claim.

Increasingly, they add, those capabilities are being developed and delivered within the region itself.
