Manchester AI integration start-up Versori has been sold to US firm Avalara, Inc for an undisclosed sum.
Versori uses AI to “build and manage integrations between software applications,” helping to accelerate digital transformation.
Avalara, meanwhile, claims to have developed one of the biggest libraries of tax content and integrations on the market, supporting over 200,000 direct and indirect customers across more than 75 countries.
The deal will support Versori’s long-term growth strategy and enable the organisation to accelerate innovation, enhance connectivity across its platform, and expand its global reach.
Versori founder and CEO Sean Brown, a familiar face on the regional tech scene having previously helped build companies including Hatch (which was acquired by Social Chain), Mercarto and Gitwork, said: “Joining forces with Avalara represents an exciting new chapter for Versori. Avalara’s global scale and shared commitment to innovation make them the ideal partner to accelerate our technology roadmap and expand the value we deliver to customers worldwide.”
Scott McFarlane, CEO and co-founder of Avalara, added: “Versori’s technology and team significantly accelerate our ability to connect into the world’s commerce systems quickly, at scale using intelligent, AI-driven automation that meets the reliability and accuracy standards global compliance demands. This acquisition strengthens our unified platform and advances Avalara’s vision of AI-native compliance that operates continuously, intelligently, and at scale across the world’s most trusted commerce systems.”
The acquisition includes both Versori’s technology and its team, and the co-founders, along with additional team members, will remain in post to continue to work on advancing integration and agentic AI capabilities across the Avalara platform. Versori will now operate as Versori by Avalara.
North west accountancy and business advisory firm, Cowgills, advised Versori’s shareholders.
James Kennedy, deal advisory partner at Cowgills, which advised Versori’s shareholders on the takeover, said: “Versori’s cutting-edge AI integration capability in the enterprise software and integration platform as a service (iPaaS) market supported by Avalara’s multinational enterprise customer base creates substantial opportunities. This transaction highlights the strength of UK technology businesses in the international market, and we congratulate the Versori team on reaching this key milestone.”
