Bangers & Cash indie creates “nerve-wracking” first landings channel

Air TV’s launched its debut digital-first content, filming trainee pilots land planes for the first time.

First Landings has been filmed at the Bangers & Cash and Yorkshire Air 999 indie’s Leeds East Airport base.

“We wanted to find an exciting idea that was simple and repeatable, yet captured all of the human emotions which everyone can relate to,” explained Managing Director Matt Richards.

“No pilot ever forgets their first solo flight, and now we’re able to share the anticipation, the concentration, the adrenaline and the immense pride every student feels when they tackle their first landing. Even better for us – all of this is taking place right outside our office window on an almost daily basis!”

The production team has been working with The Yorkshire Aviation Academy on the new series which has been in production for the last five months. The flights are captured using a bespoke mini camera rig fixed inside each of the aircraft.

“Doing my first solo landing was an unforgettable experience – it felt really strange being up there totally on my own. But what a feeling afterwards,” said student pilot Aine Shaw, who is one of the first students featured in the series.

“It’s so good to now be able to share this moment with others, and I can’t wait to see everyone else’s first landings too.”

Air TV is planning regular weekly drops of the main videos alongside shorts. They are also planning to add live streaming next month.
