Manchester ethical AI firm signs up to United Nations Global Compact – world’s largest such initiative

LunaNet AI, a Manchester-based leader in emotion-aware and ethically aligned artificial intelligence, has joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

LunaNet AI joins more than 20,000 companies based in over 160 countries, and more than 60 Local Networks, committed to taking responsible business action to create the world we all want. As a participant in the initiative, the company aligns its strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and takes action in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact derive from key UN Declarations and Conventions and represent the fundamental responsibilities of business toward people and the planet. By embedding these principles into its strategy and culture, LunaNet AI ensures that every aspect of its technology, from design and data management to deployment and governance, reflects integrity, transparency, and respect for universal values.

Louis-James Davis, founder and chief executive officer of LunaNet AI, said: “Joining the United Nations Global Compact is not just a milestone, it is a declaration of our intent to lead in ethical innovation. Our mission is to ensure that artificial intelligence evolves with empathy and integrity. By aligning LunaNet with the Ten Principles, we’re building AI that understands, respects, and uplifts humanity.”

LunaNet AI’s technology stack – EmotionEngine, PersonaLock, and LifeSpan AI – enables emotionally aware, privacy-preserving AI companions designed to evolve alongside users across healthcare, education, and wellbeing applications. The company’s research and product development are guided by a deep belief that artificial intelligence should serve as a tool for empowerment and inclusion, not exploitation.

The company’s work contributes directly to several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

  • SDG 3 — Good Health and Well-Being: Emotion-aware wellbeing platforms that detect mood, reduce isolation, and promote mental resilience.
  • SDG 4 — Quality Education: Adaptive AI mentors that enhance digital literacy and emotional development.
  • SDG 5 — Gender Equality: Bias-aware machine-learning models that ensure fairness in data and decision-making.
  • SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth: Responsible automation that augments human capability and promotes inclusion.
  • SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Ethical research partnerships that advance sustainable technology.
  • SDG 16 — Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Transparent governance frameworks that safeguard human rights and accountability in AI.

As part of its ongoing commitment, LunaNet AI will publish an annual Communication on Progress (CoP), the Global Compact’s core accountability mechanism, outlining measurable actions taken to integrate the Ten Principles across its operations.

“Transparency builds trust,” added Davis. “By reporting our progress annually, we demonstrate that ethical AI isn’t an aspiration — it’s a measurable standard. Our Communication on Progress will track how LunaNet AI’s policies, partnerships, and technologies directly support the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Becoming a participant of the United Nations Global Compact also gives LunaNet AI access to a global learning and partnership platform connecting over 20,000 companies in 160 countries. Through the network, LunaNet will collaborate with international organisations, academic institutions, and government partners to advance ethical standards and governance models for emotion-aware and human-centric AI.

LunaNet AI will participate in the UK Local Network of the UN Global Compact, further integrating the company into the national and regional ecosystem of sustainable business leaders.

“Artificial intelligence has entered a defining era,” said Davis. “It can deepen inequality or elevate humanity. LunaNet chooses the latter. Joining the UN Global Compact affirms that we will build systems that understand emotion, respect privacy, and strengthen human connection.”

Launched in 2000, the United Nations Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with the Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of broader United Nations goals.
