Manchester consultancy lands major tech partnership as ‘demand keeps growing’

Manchester-based consultancy Counter, the specialist tech arm of Northcoders, has secured a new 12-month engagement with BigChange, the global business management software provider.

The deal will see Counter assemble a five-strong team of technologists to support BigChange in developing its mobile engineering solutions. The team will include two mid-level and two associate-level developers working alongside a Counter tech lead.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Leeds, BigChange provides software for trades and field service professionals. Its platform combines software, hardware and AI-driven features to help companies simplify operations and scale efficiently. The company serves more than 2,400 customers in the UK, who have collectively tracked over 4.4 billion miles, completed 78 million jobs, and processed £3.3 billion in invoices. BigChange has previously received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation and appeared several times in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100.

Counter says it is redefining the traditional consultancy model by embedding full UK-based teams of technologists into clients’ operations. Its consultants, trained through Northcoders or the Tech Returners network, are skilled in modern cloud, data and AI/ML technologies. Clients can also onboard Counter consultants permanently at the end of each engagement at no extra cost — a model designed to boost skill retention and continuity.

Amul Batra, MD of Counter, said: “Demand for our services keeps growing as more private and public sector organisations realise how simple and effective our consultancy model is, and the difference our teams make through true collaboration and integration. This new partnership with BigChange highlights both the talents of our consultants and our dedication to tackling technology challenges head-on.”

Nick Payne, Director of Engineering at BigChange, added: “We are eager to see the value, expertise and experience that Counter’s technologists will add to this project. From our first meeting, we felt Counter’s collaborative approach and dedication to understanding our organisational culture made them a strong partner for BigChange.”
