Channel 4 has unveiled a first look at Summerwater, a brooding new Scottish drama set to air in November — with a series of images hinting at the intensity of the six-part adaptation.
The photographs, released today, capture the ensemble cast in a moody, rain-soaked setting at a remote loch-side holiday cabin park. The shots are charged with tension, reflecting the story’s simmering undercurrents of unease and isolation that build towards a devastating climax.
Among those pictured are Shereen Cutkelvin (Crime, Vigil), Anders Hayward (Vigil, Guilt), James Harkness (The Victim, Lockerbie), Daniel Rigby (Black Mirror, Landscapers), Shauna Macdonald (Shetland, Outlander) and Jamie Sives (Dept. Q, Guilt). They join a heavyweight cast that also includes Dougray Scott, Shirley Henderson, Valene Kane, Arnas Fedaravičius, Anna Próchniak and Gabriel Scott.
Adapted from Sarah Moss’s acclaimed novel, Summerwater interweaves the lives of several families on a rain-lashed holiday in rural Scotland, exploring the tensions, secrets and fleeting moments of connection that bubble beneath the surface.
The series is written by John Donnelly (The Pass, Utopia, The Assessment) and directed by Robert McKillop (Guilt, Ludwig) and Fiona Walton (Rebus, Shetland). It is the debut production from Glasgow-based indie Freedom Scripted, produced in association with All3Media International and supported by Screen Scotland.
Mike Ellen serves as Executive Producer for Freedom Scripted, with Jules Hussey (Ralph & Katie, You Don’t Know Me, Guilt) as Series Producer. Gemma Boswell commissions for Channel 4. Summerwater will air on Channel 4 this November.
