New marketing chief at fast-growing aspiring energy tech unicorn

UrbanChain, one of the UK’s fastest-growing privately held technology companies, has strengthened its growth engine with the appointment of Jack Holmes as growth marketing manager.

With revenues soaring from £2.4 million in 2023 to £25 million in 2024 – and a Sunday Times Tech Track ranking as the UK’s third fastest-growing private tech company – UrbanChain is scaling its renewable energy operating system to more customers, more sectors, and more geographies. Marketing will play a pivotal role in accelerating reach, adoption, and partnerships.

Jack brings 15 years of B2B and B2C marketing experience spanning energy tech, renewables, and high-profile consumer brands. His previous roles include Evergreen Energy and SMS Plc’s renewable division Metis, covering air source heat pump, solar, and EV tech markets. He has also worked with agencies including Global and BGFG, delivering campaigns for clients such as Logitech, The Shard, and Silverstone Racetrack.

Charlie Parry, chief development officer at UrbanChain, said: “UrbanChain’s growth means we need to connect with more customers, faster, and in more targeted ways. Jack’s experience will help us sharpen our message, expand our reach, and unlock the next phase of adoption for our platform.”

Jack Holmes said: “I’m over the moon to join such a pioneering company. UrbanChain’s operating system is game-changing for businesses and communities, enabling cleaner, more resilient energy markets. I look forward to developing strategies that build on the amazing work the team has accomplished so far, and the new opportunities ahead.”

Backed by investors including European investment group Eurazeo, UrbanChain directly connects renewable generators with consumers, enabling private energy markets insulated from wholesale volatility. Customers include industrial and commercial companies, office buildings, data centres, local authorities, housing associations, industrial sites, and hospitals.

UrbanChain was recently named one of Prolific North’s Tech Companies to Watch for 2025. The female-founded Manchester energy tech believes it has found the key to reforming a “broken” energy market in the UK. The company launched a new sales division in 2025 to support its next phase of UK growth after a period of significant commercial expansion. The company is currently at 75 staff and aims to double to 150 over the next 12–18 months. UrbanChain’s leadership describes the business as having “unlimited growth potential,” with aspirations to reach unicorn status and significantly scale revenues and impact.
