Don’t look back in congestion! Oasis travel masterplan ahead of historic Heaton Park homecoming

With just days to go until Oasis make their historic return to Manchester, fans are being urged to plan ahead – and to ditch the car for the tram.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has issued travel advice for the hotly anticipated homecoming shows at Heaton Park, encouraging the 80,000 fans expected each night to use public transport, especially the Metrolink service from Victoria station, the only city centre stop with a direct link to the venue.

Trams will run every six minutes from Victoria to Heaton Park on July 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20, with double carriages in operation and capacity to carry up to 4,000 passengers an hour.

“It’s going to be one of those ‘I was there’ moments,” said Steve Gilholme, TfGM’s head of events. “And the best way to get there and back will be to take advantage of the great public transport options – particularly the six-minute tram service from Victoria station.”

After 9pm on show nights, Heaton Park tram stop will close, with fans directed to nearby Bowker Vale for return journeys to Bury and Manchester city centre. Last trams from the area will run as late as 2.02am, depending on the date.

TfGM is also laying on shuttle buses from Lever Street in the Northern Quarter to Heaton Park from 1.30pm each concert day, with return services from inside the park running from 10pm. A limited number of £10 return shuttle tickets are available via the Bee Network app, and must be bought in advance.

With road closures and other major events in the city – including Billie Eilish at Co-op Live and Kool & The Gang at AO Arena – fans are being urged to leave extra time and avoid driving if possible.
