North East tech firm promises “significant” growth from new Manchester office

A BGF-backed Durham-based tech company is expanding into Manchester, promising to “significantly expand” from its new Clipper’s Quay office.

In 2024, Hicomply, which provides information security management software, achieved more than 20,000 users and grew its headcount by 20 per cent. The company also took part in CyberNorth’s first UK-based trade mission to Cheltenham, the home of GCHQ.

The new Manchester office will focus on sales, marketing and customer success. It is being spearheaded by the board and Mark Edgeworth, who joined Hicomply as its chief revenue officer in late 2024.

The expansion into the North West will support the company’s aim to double in size by the end of 2025 following £3m investment from BGF. The BGF boost has already seen the firm grow its product development from its North East base.

Ed Bartlett, chief executive at Hicomply, said: “Cybersecurity is no longer just something that sits with the IT team. Forward-thinking businesses are coming to realise that it is essential for businesses looking to reduce risk, protect their operations and unlock new opportunities.

“We have seen first hand how helping organisations achieve certification can open doors, whether that is winning new contracts and tenders, building customer trust or entering new markets. That is why we are investing in Manchester, to get closer to the growing number of businesses that recognise compliance as a strategic advantage.

“Our goal is to simplify every process and every step so teams can meet framework standards faster and build on the work they have already done. Even for those just starting the journey, it does not have to feel daunting, and we are here to support them every step of the way.”
