What’s happening at Digital City Festival’s The Tech Debrief?

As Digital City Festival is gearing up to descend on Manchester, we have an incredible line-up of speakers and inspiring sessions lined up for The Tech Debrief.

The Tech Debrief, hosted at Bruntwood SciTech’s The Bright Building on Tuesday 28th March, is just one of Digital City Festival’s specially curated events for CEOs, founders, business owners, innovation specialists and decision-makers across the tech world.

Following a morning welcome and introductions, a Tech for good panel will kick-start the day chaired by Manchester City Council’s Digital Strategy Lead, Sherelle Fairweather. The session will address how tech can be a force for good and build practical foundations that are accessible to everyone.

The impressive line-up of speakers includes Kira Allmann, Senior Digital Strategy Officer for Manchester City Council; Ben Davies, Group Marketing Director at Praetura Ventures; Gemma McCall, co-founder and CEO at tech for good developer Culture Shift and Pauline Weill, Senior Service Designer at Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Next up will be an insightful talk on Scaling internationally in 2023: advice from those who’ve been there before. Colin Greene, ex-Apple and VC partner at Praetura Ventures and Mark Hartley, founder of ‘successfully scaled’ Manchester-based banking tech platform BankiFi, will discuss their own experiences in markets overseas, drawing on real-life examples, hard truths and valuable lessons for tech entrepreneurs.

Following a networking break, take a seat for the CTOs panel chaired by Sue Daley, Director of Innovation at techUK. The line-up of speakers includes: Patience Tucker, CEO of wi-Q Technologies; Anindo Ganguly, Vice President Delivery at DXC Technology and Marcus Bearden, Senior Director at Slalom, UK&I Cloud Advisory and Technology Enablement.

Stewart Boutcher, CTO at Veracity Trust Network, will deliver a dedicated talk to explain why these attacks happen, how often they occur, why you should care and what you can do to prevent them.

According to techUK, 57% of UK IT firms find access to talent is the biggest barrier for growth. In a special session called Addressing the tech skills gap and the role of apprenticeships, the panel of speakers will delve into the skills gap facing both tech and digital businesses and explore solutions.

Chaired by Kelly Bailey, Business Development Director at GC Education & Skills, The Growth Company, panellists include Philip Blair, Senior Advisor at Business Growth Hub part of The Growth Company – Digital, Creative & Technology; Deb Hetherington, Head of Innovation Services, North at Bruntwood SciTech; Aleksa Vukotic, CTO at The and Renee Bell, former Junior Content Producer Apprenticeship.

Speakers include Emma-Louise Fusari, Founder and Clinical Director at In-House Health and Caroline Canty, Founder and Director of Craft Coaching.

There will also be a thought-provoking session led by AI Tech UK on Demystifying AI for business. The talk will address the opportunities and benefits other tech leaders have tapped into with AI, how to start your AI journey and explore how to implement AI strategically and ethically.
