Vintage Vinyl bids farewell to listeners after 29 years on Radio Tees

Colin Bunyan presented his last Vintage Vinyl show on BBC Radio Tees yesterday as the BBC’s new local radio schedules continue to roll out nationwide.

Bunyan has presented the popular show in the North East for 29 years as part of his 49-year career at Radio Tees and its predecessor. Bunyan said on Facebook: “I’ll be back in Studio 2 BBC Radio Tees with the final Vintage Vinyl this afternoon at 4 o’clock after Paul Goffy Gough. It’s a day I was hoping wouldn’t come but, the decision to replace it with a regional show from Newcastle and then nationwide show has been made. We’ll have six songs from a singer who has been in show business for about 80 years. She had hit records from the 1950s and more recently appeared in the West End as the bird lady in Mary Poppins. The legendary Petula Clark. We’ll also have lots of requests and more music memories from the 1940’s to the 70s.”

“There’s been uncertainty for Sunday presenters since early in the year but, I have thoroughly enjoyed producing and presenting the show for the past 29 years as part of my 49 years at BBC Radio Cleveland/Tees. I’ve presented Breakfast, Mid Morning, Afternoons and Evening Drive Time as well as many weekend shows and outside broadcasts.”

Bunyan will return to present a one off Christmas special in December.

The show’s demise comes as the BBC streamlines its local radio services, with much local evening and weekend programming being replaced by regional or national programming as the broadcaster looks to divert funding to its digital services.

Colin has been asked to present a one off Christmas special in December, although many listeners, like myself, are very sad to see this amazing show end.

So many tributes on social, cards, letters have been sent to him.  Sadly the bbc want to cancel the show
