University of London launches new website from Numiko

The University of London has launched a completely redesigned website, created by Leeds digital agency Numiko, to strengthen its position as the UK’s foremost provider of distance and blended learning worldwide.

The new website represents a major re-design that delivers a captivating and user-friendly website powered by Drupal 10.

Central to the redesign was enhancing the user experience for prospective students seeking flexible learning options. Numiko conducted extensive user research and testing to develop an intuitive

information architecture that meets the needs of key audiences from across 190 countries. The improved course search functionality enables quick filtering by study method and location, letting prospective students easily find the right course for them.

The website supports the institution’s ambition to bring together its internal constituent parts, including the School of Advance Study, Institute in Paris, Senate House Library, and others, more closely from a brand perspective, as part of their ‘one university’ strategy.

Custom animations and unified UI components communicate the interconnectedness of the university while allowing individual schools to showcase their specialisms. Throughout the design, animations of a single, unwinding ribbon, inspired by the university’s crest, are used to create the sense of a single idea being present throughout all parts of the University of London, tying together disparate schools into a coherent whole.

Additional improvements include upgraded security, consolidated governance, and a redesigned backend to facilitate more autonomous management by the university’s internal development team.

James Moore, head of digital at the University of London, said: “Numiko always kept our focus on the users’ needs, and the result is a fantastic website that effectively serves our key audiences of prospective and current students. The vastly improved course search helps students quickly find the right programmes for them, whether that’s a distance learning option or at one of our federation members. The new website has allowed us to bring together disparate sites into a single platform with a fresh and unifying design.”

David Eccles, co-founder of Numiko, added: “We are proud to have partnered with University of London on this ambitious re-design project. The new website perfectly captures the excellence, prestige and global reach of University of London and brings a completely fresh user experience to one of the world’s leading distance learning providers.”
