Tributes paid to Out There Events founder and Mix Interiors chief Marcie Incarico

Tributes are being paid online to Out There Events founder and Mix Group/Mix Interiors Magazine lynchpin Marcie Incarico after her husband Martin Mongan announced she had lost her battle with cancer.

Mongan, himself a former MD of commercial interior design bible Mix Interiors, took to his late wife’s LinkedIn today to report the news:

“My beautiful wife, and Luigi and Bella’s incredible Mum, lost her battle with cancer on Sunday. She leaves us with broken hearts but with lives enriched by her presence. She was my inspiration for 34 years and I know she had the same impact on many others.

Her hard work, determination and meticulous attention to detail ensured she built in Mix Interiors a very successful business she was immensely proud of. But it’s the human impact that Marcie had on others that she also should have been proud of, but quite often struggled to recognise. With her straight forward approach, generally littered with expletives and masses of humour, she could captivate a room within seconds of arriving.

She leaves a huge hole in our lives but we are all better for having known the phenomenon that was the beautiful and awe inspiring Marcella Incarico.”

Incarico was a well-known face on the North’s media scene, having also spent seven years as sponsorship and promotions manager at Bauer Media forerunner Emap Radio in the nineties, where she looked after popular local channels including Key 103, Aire FM, Metro and Hallam FM.

Mix Group was created from the merger of Incarico’s Manchester-based Out There Events and London-based publishing and events firm, and long-term Out There partner, Mix Media in 2013.

Mix Interiors also shared the news on its own socials, saying:

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcie Incarico, board director at Mix Interiors and former managing director. Marcie passed yesterday, surrounded by loved ones, after an ongoing battle with cancer, and will be greatly missed by the Mix Interiors team and all of those who knew her.

Marcie was a force in the commercial interior design and events industry, widely respected and recognised for her ability to connect with people, her riotous sense of humour and the determination she brought to every project, be it large or small.

Marcie met former Mix Media and Mixology (now Mix Awards) owner, Henry Pugh in 2007, helping him to launch sister event Mixology North in Manchester. She subsequently took over the running of both Mixology events, in London and Manchester, transforming them into the largest commercial interior design awards in the UK. When Henry Pugh passed away, Marcie took ownership of the wider business in 2013, which included both the industry-leading awards programme and Mix Interiors – the print and digital title for commercial interior design.

Across almost a decade, she steered the business’s growth (including through the challenging years of the pandemic), building the team, strengthening its market position and introducing new elements into the portfolio. In 2022 she stepped back from her managing director role, as the company transitioned to an EOT structure – remaining a board member, while handing day-to-day operations to Leon March.

Throughout her time in leadership, Marcie demonstrated an astute understanding of the commercial design sector; recognising that it is an industry built on meaningful personal relationships. Many called her a friend, as well as a colleague and a peer.

Our thoughts go out to her husband, Martin and her children, Luigi and Bella. If you would like to get in touch with any words of condolence or positive stories or memories, please contact and we’ll collate these for posterity and to share with the wider Mix team.”

Many friends and colleagues shared their memories of Incarico on social media, with tributes variously describing her as “a gorgeous, kind soul,” “a great influence,” “a legend” and “a genuine wonderful person.”
