Sweet dreams are made of cheese: DATS and Extons Foods plan a grate future

It’s a gouda day for Down At The Social (DATS), which has been handed the brief to support Extons Foods, one of the UK’s largest independent cheese processing companies, with a PR and social media campaign at a crucial time of growth for the family firm.

Extons, which has recorded phenomenal growth over the past few years, supplies grated, block and continental cheeses to sandwich manufacturers, wholesalers, food service providers and retailers across Europe. The award-winning business, run by sisters Liz Parkinson and Rachael Extons, has recently announced that it is investing £4m in a new 54,000 sq ft facility that is set to be fully operational by 2024.

The sisters plan to make 2024 their best year yet as they aim to grow their sliced and grated retail offering and DATS will support with a regional and national trade and business media relations campaign alongside work to develop the business’s social media profile, in particular on Linkedin.

Daisy Whitehouse, MD at Down at the Social, said; “I am always amazed when I discover new businesses in Greater Manchester that I have never heard of but are quietly working away having great successes. Extons is very much one of these sleeping giants. Liz and Rachael have done a phenomenal job in growing the business over some trying years and we are really happy to be helping them shout about their brilliant achievements and plans for the future.

“They are a humble team and very much not show offs but we hope to strike a balance between being proud of what they do and maintaining this nature. They really do have a lot to talk about and we know that the retail buyers that they are looking to connect with will be fascinated by what they have to come.”

Parkinson added: “This is our very first step into promoting what we do as a business and we are very conscious that we must do it our way. We aren’t a bold brash company and we want to celebrate our successes and support our growth while staying true to our values and focussed on what really matters – our staff and clients.

“We felt that Daisy and the team understood this and whilst showing us what we need to do to make the campaign a success, they have been sensitive to our concerns and helped us develop the right approach for us.”
