‘Stop Brexit Man’ thrown out of fringe event at Tories’ Manchester conference

Anti-Brexit activist Steve Bray was thrown out of a fringe meeting at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester this afternoon after disrupting The Bruges Group’s meeting as it began.

Sporting a ‘Stop the Tories’ t-shirt, Bray interrupted the opening remarks of group chairman Barry Legg demanding: “Where’s your Brexit benefits?”

A brief scuffle ensued, and was filmed, before Bray was led out of the meeting, or rather more dramatically “violently wrestled out,” per National World politics editor Ralph Blackburn.

Bray is a well-known anti-Brexit campaigner who gained the catchy nickname Stop Brexit Man when he held daily protests in Westminster during 2018 and 2019. He also unsuccessfully stood as Liberal Democrat candidate for the Cynon Valley constituency in the 2019 United Kingdom general election.

Although there can be no doubting Bray’s commitment to his cause, it’s probably fair to say that his latest protest won’t be recorded as a high point in reasoned argument for greater political and economic integration with mainland Europe.
