Shot using IMAX-certified digital cameras and designed specifically for The IMAX Experience®, The Mandalorian and Grogu features 53 minutes presented in Printworks Manchester’s towering IMAX 1.43:1 aspect ratio, delivering significantly more image on screen and giving audiences access to the largest picture area possible.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is the latest instalment in the sprawling Star Wars Universe, co-written by John Favreau and Dave Filoni, who also created the original Disney+ series The Mandalorian, and again directed by Favreau, who has also directed a number of Disney’s animation/live action adaptations including The Jungle Book and The Lion King and has served in a variety of production, executive production and acting roles across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
IMAX is a proprietary, premium cinema format designed to maximize the field of view and immerse the audience in the film. It achieves this by using specialized high-resolution cameras, massive screens, custom stadium seating, and upgraded 12-channel audio systems.
While standard movies are usually shown in widescreen format (2.39:1), IMAX uses a taller 1.90:1 or 1.43:1 ratio, expanding the picture vertically to show up to 40% more of the image. IMAX auditoriums feature massive, sometimes curved, screens that stretch from floor to ceiling and are specifically designed to entirely fill an audience’s peripheral vision. IMAX also optimises the film’s audio and visual quality through proprietary remastering processes and customised sound systems with a wider frequency range, allowing audiences to feel bass and subtle sound notes more deeply.
The Mandalorian and Grogu launches at VUE Printworks IMAX from 22 May and is available to book here.
