Social founder announces succession plans and exit – but not for three-to-five years

John Quinton-Barber, founder and CEO of Social

Social chief John Quinton-Barber has announced plans for his succession at the Manchester comms agency he founded in 2013, Social.

The first step in the plan is handing over the reins of MD to Pete Wrathmell, already a director at the company.

Quinton-Barber announced the latest news on LinkedIn: “I’m absolutely delighted to be handing over the reins to Pete Wrathmell to help lead Social into a brand new chapter. Pete has been with the business for almost ten years and is someone who has grown into the MD position and I couldn’t be prouder of him,” he said.

“I’m changing lanes and it’s a hugely positive move for the business and me. This is about my succession and moving into a partnerships role frees me up to do what I do best – and that is work with our clients at C-Suite level and support their goals; nurture our existing relationships and create new ones to bring additional new work to the business.

Quinton-Barber went on: “We have built a great brand and we have some brilliant clients whom we love serving. But I recognise that the future belongs to the next generation, and I know when it’s time to step out of their way and support them to fully succeed. This is a real positive paradigm shift for Social. And it’s a move that will see me exit Social within the next three to five years.

I am proud of what I have achieved in the last ten years.”

Wrathmell added: “Very proud to be taking on the Managing Director role at Social. I’ve seen first hand just what an incredible job John Quinton-Barber has done over the last 10 years to create, build and lead what is a hugely talented team. Ups and downs of course, but we’ve always remained true to creating an agency that delivers positive social change. And I’m now in the privileged position to continue that legacy into our second decade.”
