Patience returns to York for third series

Filming is set to start in York and Belgium next month for the third instalment of Patience.

The detective drama, produced by Eagle Eye Drama (The Couple Next Door, Bookish) is Channel 4’s most watched show so far this year across linear and streaming.

The launch of series 2 received an average audience of 4.2m.

“Audiences across the world have taken Patience to their hearts and it’s wonderful to see the series performing so strongly in the UK, becoming the 8th most streamed show across all platforms midway through its run,” explained Jo McGrath, Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama.

“This is testament to the quality of our outstanding cast, led by Ella Maisy Purvis and production team, led by director Maarten Moerkerke. Happily, they will all be returning to deliver another gripping extended series of ten episodes.”

With an extended run of 10 episodes, the new series returns to autistic criminal records archivist Patience (Ella Maisy Purvis) who continues her work with City of York Police, bringing her unique insight to a series of perplexing cases.

After initial clashes with motorbike-riding DI Frankie Monroe (Jessica Hynes) in Series 2, Patience and Frankie are now close colleagues and friends.

“We’re delighted to welcome Patience back to Channel 4 for its third series. The show has really captured the hearts of our viewers, and there’s genuine excitement to see where Patience’s investigations take us next in the City of York,” said Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4.

Eagle Eye Drama is part of ITV Studios. Maarten Moerkerke (13 Commandments) returns to direct alongside Jan Matthys with Producer Jen Burnet and Executive Producers Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino.

Patience, which is adapted from the original series Astrid & Raphaëlle produced by JLA Productions for France TV, will be distributed worldwide by Beta Film.

Series three is written by Matt Baker, Amy Shindler and Beth Chalmers and is being produced in association with Happy Duck Films and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter.
