New hub for Sheffield’s tech startup community launches

01 Silicon Square by Venture.Community, a new cluster designed to develop and sustain Sheffield’s deep tech and sciences startups, has officially launched.

The 4,500 sq. ft site, within The Pennine Five Campus and the Innovation Spine, will provide events, private offices and co-working spaces for up to 100 people.

The creators hope 01 Silicon Square will become the “nucleus for startups in Sheffield,” and plan to help them grow as inclusive companies operating in promising industries that people want to work in.

Venture.Community is a society dedicated to backing the next generation of startups with time, capital and heart. Society members including Latimer Tuition, SPL Strategies and TUBR have already taken up residence.

Venture Community has supported 15 companies in raising more than £23 million to date. It also has a base within The Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham.

Pennine Five is a historic site now occupied by a wide range of deep tech and sciences companies. It is an important part of the Innovation Spine; a designated corridor through the city centre that connects innovation hubs, research institutions and growth-focused businesses.

“Thanks to support from our partners at the Council, SYMCA and RBH Properties, Venture.Community has opened this great space for founders to collaborate with each other and build great companies. The space sits at the centre of the Innovation Spine and we aim to help support the region’s deep-technology pedigree with venture doctrine, experienced mentorship and access to capital,” said Peter Hopton, founder of Venture.Community.

“Our already successful model has attracted membership internationally, who have supported trade missions to the US and Germany. Our ambition is an international community of venture entrepreneurs combined with a culture of success, mutual assets and working spaces, and access to much needed early-stage capital” he added.

Venture.Community will hold a Sheffield Innovation Showcase on Thursday 19 March where founders of all stages are invited to present and network as part of UK Tech Week. The FCA registered society is dedicated to transforming entrepreneurship as a profession. It has over 300 members and over 50 Fellows, who share the belief that entrepreneurship has the power to transform communities, economies and lives.

Founded in South Yorkshire, the society runs three super-accelerators per year, has dedicated offices for members, UK and international events and a growing list of supporting venture funds.
