Captive Devices develops technology used for facial performance capture in visual effects, gaming and virtual production. Its systems include integration with Unreal Engine, and the acquisition now adds facial capture technology to Vicon platform. The company reported revenue of £500,000 in the year to 30 April 2026.

The acquisition expands Vicon’s existing motion capture offering beyond its current specialist field of body tracking by adding integrated facial capture capabilities alongside its existing marker-based, markerless and hybrid technologies.

Oxford Metrics plans to make Captive Devices’ technology available through Vicon’s international sales channels and existing customer relationships. The company aims to broaden the market for its products, increase sales of facial capture systems and continue developing its end-to-end capture platform.

Oxford Metrics currently serves customers in more than 70 countries, providing smart sensing and measurement technologies across the life sciences, entertainment, engineering and manufacturing markets.

Within the Vicon motion capture division, as well as its Industrial Vision and Metrology Systems business, the group supplies motion measurement and machine vision solutions to thousands of customers.

Imogen O’Connor, chief executive of Oxford Metrics, said: “This is exactly the kind of targeted investment we want to make in Vicon – adding differentiated technology and specialist expertise in an area that builds directly on our existing strengths.

“Captive Devices extends our capabilities from body tracking into facial performance capture and gives us the opportunity to take proven technology to a much broader global customer base.”

The Oxford-headquartered group is paying £250,000 in cash, issuing £300,000 worth of shares over 24 months, and a potential earn-out of up to £200,000 based on gross profit performance.
