Media Smart and TikTok bring in-person teen online safety workshops to Bradford

Media Smart, the advertising industry’s education non-profit, and leading short-form video platform TikTok are extending their parent and carer’s campaign Teens, Social Media & You with a new partnership with Oasis Hub Lister Park in Bradford to host two community workshops.

Building on the success of the 2025 Teens, Social Media & You campaign, the sessions have been specifically designed by youth creative agency Livity to support the local community.

The original campaign saw the launch of a suite of creator-led videos and resources in Europe to help parents, caregivers and teachers feel confident supporting teens’ use of online platforms. The campaign positioned teenagers as the educators, guiding their guardians through the sometimes-complex world of online platform safety tools.

By utilising platform-native trends like ‘Get Ready With Me’ and ‘Walk and Talk’ featuring real-life teens (18+) and their trusted adults, safety advice was “transformed into engaging, intergenerational dialogue to drive meaningful change in the digital literacy of parents empowering them to talk to their teens and start the journey of keeping them safer online.”

While many online safety initiatives live exclusively on digital platforms, this campaign extension recognises that those who need the most support are often communities less digitally engaged or currently offline. By shifting to a face-to-face model in Bradford, Media Smart and TikTok are tackling digital safety in an innovative way – by taking it offline to reach those who need it most.

The 90-minute interactive workshops, scheduled for today (22nd April) will focus on practical, easy to understand advice and tips that caregivers can use to get involved in their teen’s online life. The goal is to move away from technical barriers and instead foster confidence, encouraging open conversation with their teens about digital habits.

Key areas of the workshops include:

  • How to start a positive conversation about social media
  • Encouraging healthier online habits
  • Understanding filters, effects, and digital self-esteem
  • Recognising and preventing scams

Rachel Barber-Mack, executive director, Media Smart, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Teens, Social Media & You to parents and carers in Bradford. These workshops will encourage open conversations at home while giving families practical tools to support their teens’ online lives. With the initiative recently shortlisted for a Purpose Award, this extension marks an important step in reaching families beyond digital spaces.”

Jules Millar, principal of Oasis Academy Lister Park, added: “At Oasis Academy Lister Park, we are proud to support initiatives that help families feel confident navigating the digital world alongside their children. Partnering with Media Smart and TikTok allows us to bring practical, accessible digital safety guidance directly into our local community.

“These face-to-face workshops recognise the importance of open, positive conversations at home and ensure that parents and carers – particularly those who may feel less digitally connected – are supported with clear, relatable advice.”
