Newsco Insider seeks new managing director

B2B publisher and event organiser Newsco Insider is seeking a new managing director.

An advert posted by executive recruiter Daniels Smalley Partnership, and currently running on specialist executive recruitment site executivesontheweb.com, explains that “the current MD is now planning retirement and is seeking a new Managing Director to take over the day to day running of the business and to continue its expansion and growth.”

Newsco Insider has contacted Prolific North to point out that current MD Andy Slim, an Insider veteran of 27 years who stepped up to MD in April 2022, is in fact not currently planning retirement. We have sought clarification on the ad’s claim and any changes to the management structure moving forward.

Slim, who began life at Insider as a sales exec in 1995, is a shareholder in the company, following a 2005 management buyout which saw Slim and other employees, including majority shareholder, former MD and current chair Marlen Roberts, buy the company from then-Yorkshire Post owner Regional Independent Media.

Insider publishes six regional B2B magazines across the UK from its network of six offices and also hosts numerous events such as award dinners in the regions where it operates.

Like many companies with a strong events element, it faced challenges during the covid pandemic, however by the time of its last reported results, for the year to December 31 2021, it had returned to profitability with its events back in place and an EBIT profit of just over £0.5m. It also launched the South East Business Insider during the year.

The listing goes on to describe the role as “an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious and accomplished individual to take over the leadership and commercial direction for the business in order to deliver the future growth expectations.”

It adds that it is seeking “a successful MD who can demonstrate a proven track record of continually delivering results at this level.”
