Aposto has been awarded an Innovate UK Grant to see how tech can “radically improve” venue safety at live events.
The Venue Safety Data Feasibility Study will explore how AI, safety tech and a “data commons” can work together.
The Liverpool SaaS firm said it was on a mission to make the UK the safest place to attend a live event.
The intelligence arm of Aposto, CrowdVista™, has been designed to help event organisers share and access critical data points ahead of events or match days, empowering operations and safety teams to be on the front foot with mitigating risk and implementing preventative measures.
Following work with a number of football clubs, the company is now expanding into the live music sector.
“This project is incredibly important to us. As a team we are very driven by the Hillsborough Disaster but every year there are serious incidents at festivals, venues and sports events across the world,” explained founder and CEO, Cathy Long.
“This grant is a unique opportunity for us to examine how information- sharing and AI can improve safety. In December 2022 two people died at Brixton Academy. There had been a similar event – a ‘near miss’ on the same tour just a few days before. Same artist, same tour, same sort of incident. But Brixton didn’t have this information. This is what we want to change.”
The 9 month project will involve music venues in Liverpool and Greater Manchester and identify crowd safety solutions that benefit staff, artists and fans.
