Former Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has been named as the new Germany head coach.
However, in his first press conference he threatened to quit the job, if media invaded his family’s privacy.
Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has been an ambassador for Red Bull and heads to a German side after time as a pundit at the World Cup – during which he poked fun at his predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann. Something he said he now regretted.
Nagelsman was under intense media scrutiny during his time in charge, something which Klopp said would cause him to step down.
“It is my mission to make the national team squad a better team […], but it is not something I am doing against you, I am doing it for you. It is an honour,” he said during the press conference.
“I will be remunerated very graciously and if tomorrow ‘Jurgen Klopp is s***,’ I will be gone. But if the DFB says let us discontinue the job, then that’s it.
“And if you behave badly and don’t leave my family in peace, I’ll be gone. I’ll just turn away. I know there are other countries where national team head coaches are treated even worse. I love this job but I am also ready to call it quits if needs be.”

The 59 year old added that this would be the “pinnacle” of his career and he wouldn’t be looking at another management job afterwards.
He left Liverpool in 2024, winning 6 trophies in 9 years at the club.
He’ll be joined by Peter Krawietz, Pepijn Lijnders and Sven Bender as assistant coaches. Krawietz and Lijnders previously worked alongside Klopp at Liverpool, where they won the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020.
“Jürgen Klopp has shown over many years at the very highest level that he can develop young players and get his teams to perform under pressure. He is also an outstanding motivator who will inspire our fans and German football as a whole. I’m looking forward to working with him,” said DFB Sporting Director Rudi Völler,
The contract runs until the end of the 2030 World Cup.
