Hollyoaks producer Lime Pictures unveils high-end new studio facility for Liverpool

All3Media’s Lime Pictures has announced the launch of L16, a brand-new, purpose built studio located within its Liverpool campus.

The strategic expansion and investment reinforces Liverpool and the North West as a leading hub for high-end TV and film production in the UK.

L16 provides flexible, cost-effective options for producers of both scripted and unscripted content. In addition to the studio space, Lime will also offer post-production facilities powered by the industry standard Avid Media Composer and the opportunity to use fully dressed and versatile existing sets including a hospital ward, authentic school classrooms and corridors, characterful bars, kitchens, bedrooms and much more, providing a comprehensive one-stop solution for production teams.

The new, 1,991 sq ft studio also benefits from a range of established resources including full production office facilities, green rooms, galleries, edit suites, catering, on-site parking and a hair and a make-up suite.

The first production set to film in the new space is Girl Troop vs Aliens, a CBBC scripted comedy-drama from Lime Kids, producers of the acclaimed Netflix series, Free Rein and Zero Chill.

Based on the critically acclaimed 2019 Edinburgh Fringe show, the series is created by playwright Madeleine Perham with lead writer Julia Kent (Malory Towers, Hunter Street).

Lime Pictures, co-heads of kids and family, Angelo Abela and Tim Compton said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing Girl Troop vs Aliens to CBBC, in association with Boat Rocker Media. It’s a fresh, fearless new series that puts smart, resourceful girls front and centre, in an epic comedy sci-fi adventure. With its mix of humour, heart, and teamwork in action, we hope it will resonate with the whole audience.”

As well as scripted, L16 Studio, named after its postcode in Liverpool’s Childwall, provides filming space for a range of unscripted programming including gameshows, chat shows and entertainment programming, and can accommodate studio audiences.

Lime Pictures MD John Whittle said: “We are delighted to offer first class unrivalled production facilities right here in Liverpool. This investment strengthens the North West’s role as a true powerhouse in the UK’s creative and broadcast industries. From high end dramas to global streaming content, we are ready to support the next wave of storytelling.

He added: “With decades of experience in premium drama, we have the sets, the in-house talent, and the infrastructure to deliver an exceptional production experience. L16 is a world-class space where producers can create standout content while generating real investment in the region and new opportunities for local talent to thrive.”
