As part of this year’s Prolific North Marketing Awards, we’re supporting YourFilm as they launch First Shot – a one-off competition to help one young filmmaker turn their short film idea into reality.
One winner will receive up to £15,000 in production support to bring their short film idea to life. That includes crew, kit, locations, music, and exec producer input from YourFilm’s founders – the team behind one of the North’s leading video studios.
The winning filmmaker will be announced live at the Prolific North Marketing Awards in October, with the finished film promoted across our channels.
Who can apply:
- Aged 18–25
- Based between the Scottish Borders and Manchester
- No previous production funding or commissioned work
- A bold, live-action short film idea (fiction or non-fiction, under 15 minutes)
How to enter:
Film a short 2-minute video pitch on your phone explaining your idea, the story, and why it will resonate with an audience.

Monday 8th September 2025
