Global drone and imaging tech specialist to make Northern retail debut with 10-year Arndale lease

Manchester Arndale is to welcome global drone and imaging technology leader, DJI, through the doors with a 10-year lease on a new 3,386 sq ft store, in what the shopping centre describes as “a distinctive addition to Manchester Arndale’s evolving retail mix, further reinforcing the destination’s appeal to innovative brands.”

Best known for its market-leading tech products – including drones, handheld imaging devices and camera stabilisation systems – DJI has become a globally recognised brand among content creators, photographers, filmmakers and tech enthusiasts. Since its founding in 2006, DJI has transformed the consumer drone market and now operates in more than 100 countries worldwide.

DJI’s arrival at Manchester Arndale reflects the scheme’s strategy of broadening its occupier mix beyond conventional retail. Consumers are increasingly seeking experience-led and specialist retail brands set up shop, and the addition of a globally recognised tech brand not only introduces a new dimension to Manchester Arndale’s offering, but also further enhances its appeal to today’s digitally engaged audience.

DJI comes on the heels of a string of new signings at Manchester Arndale, including Sephora, Pro:Direct, XF Gym, Arc’teryx, Neals Yard and, most recently, GARAGE, highlighting the scheme’s attraction to brands seeking access to the North West’s premier retail destination.

Scott Linard, portfolio manager for M&G Real Estate, said: “We are thrilled that DJI has selected Manchester Arndale for this new store opening. The brand represents a different category of retailer to the scheme’s traditional offer, bringing an experience-led dimension that complements our existing tenant mix. Our strategy remains focused on curating a best-in-class lineup of brands that reflect the evolving interests of visitors from Manchester and beyond.”

Steve Gray, head of European retail asset management at Global Mutual, said: “The arrival of this globally recognised brand highlights Manchester Arndale’s appeal to retailers of all kinds. Introducing leading tech operator DJI further diversifies the destination and strengthens our position as a leading regional retail hub.”

Oliver Marshall, director of acquisition agent Cited Property added on behalf of DJI: “This deal has been a number of years in the making. Finding the right opportunity in Manchester city centre for a brand of DJI’s global standing required patience but being part of Manchester Arndale and fronting onto Market Street was DJI’s ideal position. Off the back of the success of the Birmingham and London stores, this will be the new northern flagship store for such an exciting global brand. I’m really pleased to have worked on this letting on behalf of DJI and look forward to the store’s opening.”
