From boyband to broadband – we’ll give you Five guesses who giffgaff’s Chester fibre switch on “secret guests” are

Giffgaff is promising a boyband bonanza tonight (November 6) as it switches on its new full-fibre broadband service in Chester with a little help from a super-secret surprise boyband, that a selection of clumsy clues in the press release heavily suggest will be 90s favourites Five (aka 5ive), popping down the road ahead of their AO Arena show in Manchester tomorrow night.

The Chester celebration will include switching on one of giffgaff’s first member’s routers in a community pub in Handbridge for the giffgaff Switch-On Party – a night where broadband promises to meet boyband to celebrate Chester becoming one of the first areas in the UK to go live on giffgaff’s new broadband.

With new research revealing over half the nation (53%) suffers regular broadband issues at least twice a month, and over 340,000 people in the North West alone missing out on gig tickets as a result, according to ONS data, giffgaff is righting both wrongs by bringing its fast, reliable and flexible broadband and a slice of boyband history to Chester.

The “surprise” boyband will lend giffgaff a hand by making a stop off between their tour dates, and guests can expect a mix of live music, drinks and ‘bytes’ to eat.

giffgaff’s full fibre broadband comes with three flexible monthly rolling plans starting from £30, and offers speeds from 200Mbps to 900Mbps, symmetrical upload and download speeds, a One Touch Switch process that makes changing providers easier than ever, and no setup or installation fees.

It’s now available in over 360,000 properties in North West England, as well as select locations in North West England, Yorkshire and the Humber, East Midlands and is also scheduled to roll out in the North East, Scotland and Wales, and then across more locations, before the end of the year and into 2026. As an added bonus, mobile members who sign up before the end of the year will receive a £100 bonus, meaning that even more members can have a little switch on celebration of their own.
