Former Shell executive to take over at one of North’s fastest-growing tech firms as founder steps down

Electric vehicle charging software company Fuuse has appointed former Shell e-mobility executive Roger Hunter as its new chief executive, as founder Michael Gibson prepares to step down after a decade leading the business.

Hunter will take over on 1 September following a handover period with Gibson, who founded the company in 2016 before launching the Fuuse charge point management platform in 2021.

The appointment comes as Fuuse looks to build on a period of rapid growth that has seen it secure major funding and establish itself as one of the UK’s leading charge point management system (CPMS) providers.

Hunter brings extensive experience from across the EV charging sector, having previously served as Global Vice President, E-Mobility at Shell, where he led Shell Recharge Solutions. He is also an independent non-executive director at Ignitis, the largest charge point operator in the Baltics, and previously held global responsibility for EV charging at BorgWarner.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Fuuse at such a pivotal moment. Fuuse is the leading CPMS in the UK with a reputation for excellence and I look forward to building on those strong foundations to support the company’s next stage of growth. The EV charging market is entering a critical phase of maturation, and Fuuse is exceptionally well-positioned to lead it.”

Gibson’s departure marks the end of a ten-year period at the helm of the business.

After establishing the company as a data analytics business in 2016, he oversaw its evolution into EV charging software and guided the company through several funding rounds, including an £8.7m Series A investment in May 2024.

Reflecting on the transition, Gibson said: “Roger’s experience is outstanding and I am confident Fuuse will be in the very best of hands. Over the past decade we have built one of the UK’s fastest-growing tech companies, won a roster of clients that includes hundreds of household names, and become one of the UK’s most influential companies in the EV charging sector. I leave immensely proud of what the team has achieved – and confident this will only get stronger.”

Fuuse chairman Paul Brennan described the move as a planned leadership transition.

He said: “This is a transition that Michael planned thoughtfully and on his own terms – a testament to the leader he is. He has built an exceptional business, and the board is deeply grateful for his commitment and vision.

“We are equally delighted to welcome Roger, who brings deep experience across the global EV industry, a clear-eyed view of where the market is heading, and the leadership credentials to take Fuuse further still.”
