As the definitive ranking of the North’s very best digital agencies is back for 2023, here’s everything you need to know about entering the ranking and what the title means to some of last year’s Top 50 agencies.
Widely regarded as the benchmark league for the region’s top performing digital agencies, Prolific North’s Top 50 Digital Agencies list combines financial successes such as turnover and profit alongside other factors such as growth and headcount.
We are partnering once again with our research partners Mustard, who will ensure the research process is rigorous, confidential and – most importantly – independent of Prolific North.

On what it means to be named as a Top 50 Digital Agency, CEO Chris Attewell said it’s “always a proud moment.” He added: “We continuously strive to grow our expertise, to upskill our staff and to provide more value for our clients, and this type of industry recognition shows us that we’re moving in the right direction.”
The SEO Works, based in Sheffield, made an impressive move up from 23rd place in 2021 to 18th place last year.
Alex Myers, Senior Marketing Manager at The SEO Works, commented: “Being founded in Sheffield nearly 15 years ago, we’re incredibly proud of our Northern roots and what it means to be a digital agency in the North. The Top 50 list is full of amazingly talented marketers, showing how much digital is thriving here, and we’re excited to be among them. Being part of it, from a new business perspective, has been the perfect way of celebrating both our talented team and our northern heritage simultaneously!”
For Kyle Brogan, joint managing director at Fusion Unlimited, the Leeds-based agency was one of the stand-out climbers on last year’s ranking – moving up to an impressive 64 spots to 26th place.
He said: “Being named in the top 50 is a brilliant barometer for our performance and benchmarks opportunities for further growth in the coming year.
“As we celebrate our 25th anniversary as a digital agency, our position among the top 50 serves as a testament to the remarkable work accomplished in the past quarter-century that brought us to this point and inspires us to continue growing for the next 25 years. Ranking among the top 50 gives us added credibility within our industry and instills the confidence to compete with the best in the region while attracting top clients.”
Leeds-based ICS-digital was the 10th top digital agency on last year’s ranking.
“We were exceptionally proud to once again be recognised as one of the Top 50 Digital Agencies in 2022 for Prolific North,” said Matt Roche, Director at ICS-digital.
“Achievements such as this are a testament to all of the hard work that goes in behind the scenes across all areas of the business. Having continuous and sustained growth over the last 15 years would not be possible without the hugely talented team, and we’ve further bolstered that expertise in recent months with new senior hires in some key positions. Acknowledgement from outlets such as Prolific North really helps us to spread the word so as to continue progress.
“The ranking means a great deal to agencies across the North, like ourselves, and it’s something that we’ll always shout about.”
