Dougray Scott leads Summerwater cast

Channel 4 has confirmed that Emmy award-winning Dougray Scott (Crime, My Week with Marilyn) is to lead the cast of Scottish drama, Summerwater

The 6-part Scottish thriller is the debut production from Glasgow indie, Freedom Scripted.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name by novelist Sarah Moss, it has just finished filming on location.

Adapted by screenwriter, John Donnelly (The Pass, Utopia, The Assessment), it’s directed by Robert McKillop (Guilt, Ludwig) and Fiona Walton (Rebus, Shetland).

Donnelly stated:

“In Summerwater, Sarah has found the perfect environment to explore our secrets and desires – a rain-drenched holiday park in Scotland.

“Summerwater is at once an atmospheric mystery, a hilarious and heartbreaking exploration of identity and an existential thriller. I am delighted to be working with the brilliant team at Freedom Scripted to adapt Sarah’s wonderful novel for a broadcaster with such a pedigree for bold, ambitious drama.”

Scott will appear alongside Shirley Henderson (Bridget Jones, Harry Potter), and Valene Kane (Blue Lights, Gangs of London). Other cast members include Arnas Fedaravičius (The White Lotus S3, The Last Kingdom), Anna Próchniak (The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Showtrial), Daniel Rigby (Black Mirror, Landscapers) and Gabriel Scott (Masters of the Air, House of The Dragon).

Summerwater is produced by Freedom Scripted in association with All3Media International, which is the show’s global partner, with the support of Screen Scotland.

Mike Ellen is the Executive Producer for Freedom and Jules Hussey (Ralph & Katie, You Don’t Know Me, Guilt) is the Series Producer. The commissioning editor for Channel 4 is Gemma Boswell.

Freedom Scripted is back by Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund.
