A global business delegation will join local figures overlooking the beautiful Manchester skyline at Cloud 23 on the day before Digital City Expo, to share a drink and hear from guest speaker Councillor Elise Wilson.

Wilson, Leader of Stockport Council and GMCA Digital Portfolio Lead, will open the Leaders’ Reception on March 10th, to which Greater Manchester’s inward investment agency MIDAS will be bringing an international group of tech leaders. She will highlight Greater Manchester’s digital story to-date, including the recently refreshed GM Digital Blueprint.

The invitation-only event will give attendees the opportunity to marvel at the 360-degree Beetham Tower views, network with other people of influence, and hear about Greater Manchester’s inspirational digital journey.

Councillor Elise Wilson, Leader of Stockport Council and GMCA Digital Portfolio Lead, said: “We want to make life easier, faster, more connected, more efficient, safer and more sustainable for everyone who lives, works and visits the region – and digital is central to that.

“That’s why we are doing digital differently, delivering for the people of Greater Manchester and realising the city region’s potential but we can’t do this in isolation. Digital City Festival will bring together the leaders, creators and change-makers who are shaping the future of digital, allowing us to connect with and learn from leading experts from across the globe.”

The Leaders’ Reception, taking place between 6pm and 8pm, precedes the opening of Digital City Expo, the cornerstone of the wider Digital City Festival. On March 11th and 12th, the wider business community will gather at Manchester Central for the chance to celebrate the digital sector and meet a wide range of like-minded professionals.

Cloud computing specialist iomart is the host of the Leaders’ Reception at Cloud 23, helping make this evening event a reality. Outside the reception, iomart is an Event Partner for Digital City Expo, forming a large part of the wider festival.

At Digital City Expo, iomart is heavily involved in the success of the two-day exhibition. They will exhibit in the Tech Zone at the expo, and are the sponsor of the Tech Innovation Theatre, which will host engaging talks from tech specialists throughout both days. What’s more, John Burrowes, Business Strategy Consultant, will be speaking in the Tech Masterclass Theatre on ‘Solving Mass Data Fragmentation in the Hybrid Cloud Era’.

Declan Sharpe, Director of Sales at iomart, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the digital ambition of the city and the Greater Manchester region, and to showcase the services that we provide to support the businesses that are making it all happen.

“The festival is a chance to stamp Manchester on the global map as a city that has the expertise and businesses that are leading the way in digital innovation.

“We want to show our commitment to the city, its people and its businesses, by bringing together the leaders who are driving its digital, technical and economic ambition.

“We hope everyone who attends makes new connections that help generate the ideas that will make Manchester one of the most connected city economies in the world.”
