Cheshire remote cardio caretech pilot could save NHS £1.5m a year

Etc., the digital and startup incubation hub of BT Group, has today launched the second phase of its NHS digital preventative remote care initiative designed to prevent, detect and manage cardiovascular disease through early monitoring and pre-emptive intervention.

The award-winning preventative remote care solution identifies, monitors and reduces risk of serious cardiovascular events. Delivered via a platform for clinicians to monitor patients remotely and for patients to upload their vitals and biometrics from anywhere via an app, the solution enables preventative, proactive care which could help save £1.5m in healthcare costs over the next three years.

This will now be rolled out across 26 GP practices amongst 228,000 people based in Warrington, Cheshire, and is estimated to prevent over 80 strokes and heart attacks by helping shift the NHS’s approach to care from reactive to preventative.

The initiative provides a direct contribution to the NHS’s Long Term Plan which outlines its ambition to prevent 150,000 strokes, heart attacks and dementia cases over the next 10 years. This plan builds on the principle that early intervention can reduce the risks of serious illnesses and create a more sustainable, equitable and cost-effective health service for all.

This announcement follows the success of Etc.’s first remote care pilot earlier this year in Northwest England which treated 1,090 eligible at-risk patients and potentially prevented 30 potential cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes within just seven months of implementing the solution.

Solutions developed by the Etc. HealthTech team aim to connect patients to the right care at the right time and help clinicians better manage patient demand, helping alleviate pressures in healthcare settings.

Etc. has also developed a Smart Practice offering, supporting GP demand management and improved patient experience by connecting cloud-based telephony with digital access and providing patients with an easier way to book appointments, tests and request medication.

These services complement BT Group’s available range of healthcare solutions, which include virtual ward and care programmes to support the NHS, as well as AI and digital diagnosis services to help speed up diagnosis and unlock the benefits of AI for more hospitals.
