Radio 6 Music changes line up and invites indies to tender
The BBC has announced a shake-up of its daytime and weekend schedule.
The MediaCityUK based duo of Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie will move from weekday afternoons. to present a new weekend breakfast show.
“With kids at university to support, I'm still going to be gainfully employed on Weekend Breakfast which means I stay at 6 Music, a station I love, and continue what's been a really creative partnership with Stuart,” said Radcliffe.
“Last time I did a breakfast show it was little short of disastrous and so this time I'm looking forward to making a better fist of it. What could possibly go wrong?”
Radcliffe stated on his show this afternoon, that the move "wasn't their choice."
Shaun Keaveny will move to the afternoons from the weekday breakfast show, which will be hosted by Lauren Laverne.
Mary Anne Hobbs, who had presented the weekend breakfast show, will take Laverne’s previous slot of mid mornings.
“Much-loved presenters playing amazing music is at the heart of what 6 Music does, and these schedule changes will help deliver an even greater range of music on the station across daytime and weekends,” said Paul Rodgers, Head of 6 Music
The station will be inviting both in-house BBC production teams and indies to help produce the new shows in a special commissioning round, which will open at 1pm on 9th August.
The changes will take place early in the New Year.
