The BBC has announced that DIY SOS and See Hear will be the next programmes to be put out to competitive tender.

While independent producers could be making the shows, the BBC will remain all intellectual property rights for the programmes, which will still be shown on BBC channels.

“DIY SOS and See Hear are hugely important brands for the BBC and are much-loved by audiences,” said David Pembrey, Chief Operating Officer, BBC Content.

“These two tenders underpin their ongoing importance to the BBC in the coming years, as well as our commitment to competition across our output”.

The move is part of the BBC’s Compete or Compare strategy, which was first launched in 2014 and has involved shows including BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Question of Sport and Songs of Praise.

Invitations to tender will be published later in the year.
