Apprentice star’s marketing agency turns pub quiz team into a phenomenon for Nibble

Hussell Marketing in Lancashire is behind an “unconventional” pub quiz campaign for Nibble.

The agency, founded by former Apprentice contestant, Lewis Ellis, developed and delivered the Men In Purple promotion for the knowledge app.

Ellis explained that they wanted the app to exist “in the real world” and put together a team of quiz experts in matching purple suits to turn up, unannounced, at venues across the London to challenge pub quiz champions.

“We didn’t want to make an advert for Nibble. We wanted to create something people would actually experience,” said Ellis.

“The idea of a mysterious group of quiz obsessives turning up at pub quizzes in matching purple suits felt ridiculous enough to get people’s attention, but there was a genuine strategy behind it. We were taking something people already love – the pub quiz – and turning it into a piece of live entertainment.”

“London’s Most Feared Pub Quiz Team” was made up of 4 quiz experts, including media personality Gavin Inskip, who spent the summer travelling around London’s pub quiz circuit.

That culminated in a public challenge, with teams invited to take on the ‘Men in Purple’ for a £1,000 cash prize.

“We’re living in a world where people can scroll past an advert in half a second. That means brands need to think harder about what they are actually giving people,” he continued.

“If you can create something people want to photograph, talk about, challenge their friends with or follow, you’ve created something much more valuable than an impression.”
