Sleep tech firm brings in senior healthtech figures ahead of investment round

A healthtech business has strengthened its board with two senior appointments as it prepares for a fresh investment round and further NHS engagement.

Sheffield-based SleepCogni has appointed former Inhealthcare CEO Bryn Sage and Jason Brannan, former Deputy Director of Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, (pictured above) as Non-Executive Directors.

The pair will work with founder and CEO Richard Mills as the company seeks funding to commercialise its sleep technology.

SleepCogni’s patented handheld device delivers sensory cues that users actively respond to, designed to help them switch off and fall asleep. The appointments follow a period of research and development and peer-reviewed clinical trial results.

Richard said: “Bryn and Jason bring exactly the experience we need as we move into our next phase of growth. Bryn has been CEO of leading digital health businesses, including one that exited to ResMed in 2024, operating directly in our space. Jason led strategy at one of the UK’s top wellbeing research centres and understands what it takes to get evidence-based health technology into widespread use. Their commercial and clinical insight will strengthen our board significantly.”

Bryn brings more than 40 years of experience in developing and commercialising technology. At Inhealthcare, he led the rollout of four million episodes of digital care across 150 pathways, working with more than 50 NHS trusts in England, the Public Health Agency Northern Ireland and NHS National Services Scotland.

He led the business to its acquisition by US medical technology company ResMed in 2024. Before establishing Inhealthcare, he was Chief Operating Officer at InTechnology plc.

Bryn said: “With deep experience across respiratory health, cardiology and digital therapeutics, I’ve seen how well‑designed technology can shift outcomes at population scale. Insomnia is an increasingly significant clinical and economic burden, and SleepCogni’s integrated bedside and wearable solution is differentiated in a way that genuinely matters. I’m excited to support the team in driving adoption and commercial growth.”

Jason has spent more than 20 years working across health technology and life sciences. At the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, he led strategy and R&D programmes for businesses, with a focus on prevention and reducing health inequalities.

His experience spans primary and secondary care, private healthcare, academia, and the public and private sectors.

Jason added: “SleepCogni’s technology has the potential to make a real difference to the lives of people struggling with insomnia. I’m excited to support the team as they move from strong clinical evidence into broader commercial success. Over the past 20 years my focus has been on strategic growth in healthtech, helping ambitious companies turn promising science into products that reach the people who need them.”

The pair join a board chaired by Colin Greene, a former Apple director who served as CEO of Apple Korea and is now an Operational Partner at PXN Ventures.
