John MacKay, one of Scotland’s most respected broadcasters, is returning to presenting, but on the BBC.
He stepped down from STV earlier this year after 31 years at the broadcaster.
At the time, he said he would be focusing on his writing – he’s the published author of 6 books.
He will take on temporary presenting duties for BBC Scotland’s Scotcast, while regular presenter Martin Geissler is away.
“John is one of Scotland’s most esteemed broadcasters. He brings decades of experience and has a warmth and gravitas that is hugely appreciated by the audience,” said Howard Simpson, Head of News and Current Affairs, Scotland.
“It will be great to have John at the BBC and in the Scotcast chair this summer.”

MacKay started his career at BBC Scotland as a news trainee, before moving to STV in 1994.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the Scotcast team. The podcast has set the standards in Scotland, and I relish the challenge of maintaining them in my time filling in. I’m already feeling the buzz of returning to the studio,” he said.
Scotcast is published on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer and broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC One Scotland and the BBC Scotland TV channel.
