Female-first as FilmNova produces Adobe Women’s FA Cup coverage on Channel 4

Jill Scott and Maisie Adam will be hosting Adobe Women’s FA Cup coverage on Channel 4.

Made by North East indie, FilmNova, coverage begins this weekend, with Wolverhampton Wanderers v Nottingham Forest.

“As well as bringing to life a new and fresh concept and introducing a fantastic new presenting double act in Maisie and Jill, we have also broken the mould off-screen,” said Alison Lombardi Executive Producer at FilmNova.

“All our top line production roles are filled by female industry professionals, from Lucy [Cutler] and myself as execs to Gemma Knight as match director and Lucy Barber as match producer.”

Channel 4 holds terrestrial rights to the competition for the next 3 seasons and will air one game per round from the third round onwards. This is in a co-exclusive deal with TNT Sports.

By employing 4-time FA Cup winner Jill Scott MBE and comedian and football fanatic Maisie Adam, the broadcaster said they hoped to bring “energy and authenticity” to the tournament.

“I’m so excited to be presenting this year’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup alongside Maisie and bringing such a brilliant competition to Channel 4 viewers. I loved playing in the FA Cup and it will be fantastic to be a part of it again, this time from the touchline,” said Scott.

Adam added:

“I am buzzing to be teaming up with a legend of the women’s game to present this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup. We’re going to have such a brilliant time and I can’t wait to get started on Saturday with Wolves v Forest.”

Each round will open with the Jill and Maisie’s Road to Wembley, filmed in the host town or city the day before each match. The pair will meet supporters, club characters and local personalities, exploring the stories, pride and culture that surround each team.

Then, live at the match, they will go behind the scenes with players, coaches and pundits, offering a fresh perspective on the matchday experience.

“Jill and Maisie are fantastic signings and we’re delighted to be working with FilmNova on this exciting new chapter for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup,” added Pete Andrews, Head of Sport, Channel 4.

“Their fun, fan-focussed creative vision is full of character and will bring something genuinely fresh to football coverage. We can’t wait for viewers to experience it.”
