Blue Peter’s new look and four-legged host

Blue Peter is set to reveal its new look, as it leaves its MediaCity home since 2011, for Versa Studios in Manchester.

The long-running children’s show has also revealed its latest presenter, Wigan canine, Hacker T Dog, who follows in the paw prints of Petra, Shep, Goldie and Henry.

“Audiences already love Hacker’s guest appearances on Blue Peter, and now he’s officially joining the team this September as we unveil the show’s fresh new look,” explained Sarah Muller, BBC Senior Head of Children’s Commissioning +7.

Later this year, Hacker T Dog, will officially join the current presenting team of Abby Cook, Joel Mawhinney, Shini Muthukrishnan and Henry the Blue Peter pet dog.

[Spoiler alert]… Phil Fletcher, the puppeteer behind Hacker, grew up watching Blue Peter and said he was thrilled to join the team. His alter ego added:

“It’s dead exciting!

“Thank you for letting me aboard the mighty ship Blue Peter. I am privileged, nay proud, to be involved in this fine institution and top-notch show. That’s right folks, it’s me Hacker The Dog, national treasure, and new Blue Peter presenter.”

The new look Blue Peter studio will be revealed on 5th September, with Hacker officially being introduced as presenter 44, with a special tour of the iconic spots from his Wigan home town.

Blue Peter’s production and post team will remain at MediaCity, the home of BBC Children’s and Education. It follows a decision to stop live episodes and instead have a pre-recorded magazine format, which the BBC said reflected new viewing habits.
